The Underground New York Public Library is a visual library featuring the plentiful and diverse reading-riders of New York City’s subways. Beneath the streets, photographer Ourit Ben-Haim takes candid shots of commuters with their books and posts them with the book titles and other commentary. Weekly features include a Sunday bible-reader, a Friday e-book reader, and mystery titles that are solved by the Tumblr community.

Researching the title “business savvy”, and releasing it doesn’t necessarily describe what people do differently with “savvy” rather than without. Dr. Raymond R. Reilly of the Ross School of Business (University of Michigan) and Dr. Gregory P. Reilly (University of Connecticut) document traits individuals with business savvy tend to possess:

Acute perception of the dimensions of business issues
Ability to make sense out of complexity and an uncertain future
Mindfulness of the implications of a choice for all the affected parties
Decisive nature
A flexible approach if further changes are warranted

This for me is a start, but what else is business savvy? What is it for you? What skills, abilities, or attributes are missing from the above list?

Very excited! Saw the first cut of the new video I filmed today. Still in its ‘raw’ state, obviously needs dressing - graphics, perhaps a soundtrack, etc but even so Jonathan Crane of Perpetual Films has done a fantastic first job (I’ll be working with him again).

Will let you know when the video is up and rocking.

Really enjoyed last night’s Business Savvy Mastermind Group meeting at The Hospital Club in Covent Garden.

The first meeting really was a “think-tank” of ideas shared by the 12 experts all with different expertise within the profession. In the first meeting we had a fashion designer, sculpture, actor, painter, writer, graphic designer, branding guru, fashion designer, photographer, interior designer and marketeer.

"Your True Voice" (Part 6): Purpose

Money is a very important and vital component for living a comfortable life, though it’s not the most important.

Time - each moment of every day, is a gift that is offered once, and when it’s gone, it really is gone. Hence, time is your most valuable asset.

However, there is a caveat…the quality of return you can expect to get back from time investment is also naturally affected by how you use that time. Use your time wisely, expect a great return. Use time less wisely and expect a lesser return. Time investment only reaches its true potential value if used well, and to this end having a clear purpose is essential.

If you know me, you’ll know my purpose is to help people to communicate better - with themselves and others around them.

Many celebrities and famous people have causes and charities they support. Having a reason bigger than their career - the “what they do”, gives them a purpose, which is all about “who they are”. Who you are (your purpose) runs much deeper than what you do.

Who are you?
What is your purpose (if you already have one) or what could it be (if you don’t)?
How does/would that manifest in your life - what would be different with a bigger purpose?

Knowing what your purpose is will make you aware that you have the ability to make better choices, do things differently in your career - to add a bigger meaning to your art.

The good news is that attaching a purpose to finding your true voice will bring you into contact with other people (tip 4: Engage) and will usually involve adding more fun to the equation!

Oh, and did I mention that being courageous and an inspiration for others is a reciprocal arrangement? Everyone that’s ever given something (usually their time) to others usually goes on to say how they received far more back in their lives as a result.

I call that good karma.

So, what’s your purpose? Find it, know it, own it.
