“Your True Voice” Part 5: Courage.
To be successful in the arts as a performer or creative you need bags of courage! Whilst some might mistake courage for loudness and physical strength, it’s the opposite. Real courage is about having the ability to stand up for what you do even when you feel you can’t. It’s speaking when you fear no one will listen. It’s carrying on when you feel like giving up.
Finding your true voice is about being true to who you really are. So many artists and creatives such as actors, singers, writers, directors, producers, make up artists, set designers tell how they labored for years doing what we now know them for. Oftentimes they had found themselves digging deep to continue doing what they do though being criticised, judged, laughed or ridiculed by others. But with courage, they did it anyway.
The journey towards finding your true voice can oftentimes involve overcoming a challenges along the way whilst still resolving that your art be heard above the din.
Singer’ Adele tells of her journey, as a youngster not really fitting in, being proud of her weight in a world were celebrity is perceived as thin, and of course her recent vocal chord problems.
- Where is it you need to find more courage and be a little braver in the peruser of your art?
- Think about 3 specific moment happening right now, where standing taller would make a difference, and divide right now to take the action involved to achieve just that.
- Take the first action today or in the next 24 hours (you’ll feel amazing afterwards, I promise)!
